MC Math Guided Placement
Math, Statistics and Data Science department faculty members want to welcome you to 911黑料网!
If you need an accommodation related to your disability to complete your ALEKS Math Placement, contact Disability Support Services before you begin any exams.
IMPORTANT: If you have already completed a math course at 911黑料网, you should not take the ALEKS placement test again since new scores will not count towards a new placement. Instead, you must submit your request for a review of placement by emailing: MathPlacement@montgomerycollege.edu.
Honesty Matters at MC
There is no benefit to inflating or deflating your abilities on the math placement test. Dishonest work on this test could hinder your ability to receive financial aid or hurt your GPA by placing you into a more advanced course than you are ready for.
Your scores will not change your ability to take courses at 911黑料网. We use your scores to help you choose the most appropriate courses for your incoming knowledge level and academic path.
Cheating is a violation of 911黑料网’s Student Code of Conduct and is taken seriously. Receiving help from others to complete your exam or using the Internet, Artificial Intelligence (AI)-assisted devices or unauthorized resources while completing a test are considered violations of the Student Code of Conduct.
You should complete this test using your best effort and only appropriate, authorized resources. Taking the test in this manner will ensure the best outcome for you as it will reflect your true skill level and help us provide the most appropriate support and course placement.
Who Takes ALEKS Math Placement?
If your first language is American English or you have attended a US school for 10 or more years (elementary, middle, high school), you will take the ALEKS Math placement test.
Non-native speakers of English may take the ALEKS Math placement test after completing ESL Guided Placement. A placement level of ELAR 970 or higher is required to take this math placement test.
Students without a high school diploma or GED and under 18 years old by the first day of their initial entry term are considered Underage Students. How to open an ALEKS account
- You will visit the webpage How to Apply and Register and complete “Step Two: Activate Your Account and Determine Placement.” This step will provide you with instructions to activate your MyMC account. You will also obtain your student ID number (M#) and your college email address. After activating your MyMC account, you must save your username and password.
- Next, you will go to this and create your account. You will use the same login information you created to activate your MyMC account.
- Once you create your ALEKS account and login to your account, the ALEKS platform will start the Tools Tutorial. This tutorial will help you learn about the digital tools and types of questions you will find when completing your test. You will be ready to start your Diagnostic (test 1) after the tutorial.
- You can access your ALEKS account anytime to complete your learning module, study for your tests, check your placement scores and other relevant information about your math progress.
What is ALEKS Math Placement?
911黑料网 offers ALEKS Placement, Preparation and Learning (ALEKS PPL) assessment to determine readiness for mathematics courses. Once you open your ALEKS account, you have up to twelve (12) months to complete all the sections of this test: Tools Tutorial, Diagnostic (Test 1), Attempt/Test 2 and Attempt/Test 3. As you complete these sections, you will follow the Honesty Matters policy stated at the top of this page. In the pull-down boxes below, you will find a description and instructions for each of the sections.
This tutorial will introduce you to the digital tools and types of questions you will find in an ALEKS test. It will also explain how the digital calculator works for certain questions. ALEKS is an adaptive test. This means the test will generate questions based on your performance within the test.
After completing the Tools Tutorial, ALEKS will automatically start your Diagnostic (Test 1). You will complete this diagnostic in your own time and a private location free of any interruptions. You will need a digital device (i.e. computer desktop or laptop) and a reliable Internet connection. Once you begin your diagnostic, you will have up to 48 hours to complete and submit it. Many students have been able to complete this test in 1-2 hours. The test will reset if you have not completed it within 48 hours and you will have to re-start your diagnostic from the beginning.
This is a required practice test. You cannot use the results of this diagnostic to register for classes. However, your diagnostic will create a Prep and Learning Module in your account. This module is based on the results of your diagnostic, and it will provide you with math topics and practice to refresh your math skills. You must work in your learning module for at least three (3) hours. Keep in mind that the more you practice, the better!
